I am a member of the Richmond Meetup Photography group.  On a whim,  I decided at almost the last minute to add a photo to the April photo contest and so I uploaded the butterfly photo I showed you last month in this post.   Somehow I managed to get 2nd place out of 98 entries.   I was tied for first place the several hours (yes I looked) but at the last minute I lost to a beautiful flower picture.  It’s okay though as I entered for fun with zero anticipation of placing at all and it is the first contest I have ever entered.

I did not take that photo (or the one below) with my big dSLR but instead with my Canon G9 “pro” point and shoot.  I love this camera.  It is the one that stays in my purse on a daily basis and is the one I take with me when I decide to not turn our outings into a photo op as I did the day I took the picture.  Just goes to show that with a the right subject, light and luck you can get a good photo dSLR or not.

I decide to post the other photo I took that day of a Monarch butterfly.  I love this one just as much.   Like the first one, this is SOC with just a little crop and was taken in Epcot’s Butterfly Garden.
